Overwhelmed by the mounting horrors and pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her past
Plot
About to embark on a world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins to experience increasingly terrifying and unexplainable events. Kyle Gallner is the only actor to reprise his role from the first film thus far. In one scene, Skye places a bottle of VOSS water on a stone/marble kitchen counter and a noise matching the sound of something plastic being placed is heard.

VOSS water bottles are glass, something that is actually specifically highlighted in the film, and so the audio does not match the action seen. Skye Riley: [to the Smile Entity] You’re not in control, I am!. Smile 2 takes the foundation of its predecessor and runs with it, offering a premise that lends itself to endless possibilities.
Visually, the film excels
The filmmakers made a unique choice in centering the story around a pop star’s descent into madness, giving the psychological horror a fresh angle. This creative decision keeps the narrative engaging, especially with the lead actor delivering an exceptional performance, completely capturing the unfolding of the character’s mind on screen. It’s beautifully shot, with a stunning opening sequence that immediately sets an unsettling tone – a mood that persists throughout the film.
However, the supporting cast doesn’t add much to the overall narrative
The tension never really lets up, keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The gore is another unapologetic highlight, ensuring that these moments are as visceral and disturbing as they need to be for the story. In fact, a late addition to the story introduces an eye-rolling amount of exposition that feels unnecessary and jarringly detracts from the madness that has been steadily building throughout the film.
This change weakens the psychological intensity that the film has worked so hard to establish
While the supporting characters may not be memorable, the film still manages to maintain its suspense thanks to its strong lead and striking visuals.
